The UK Cycling Club
The members' magazine, Cycle, covers a lot of topics. Public liability insurance is extended to cover rides organised under the auspices of Cycling UK Local Groups. The British Cycle Quest is an informal competition that challenges members to visit six designated places in each of the three countries.
The Slower Speeds Initiative is an association dedicated to reducing traffic speeds on all roads. The Cyclists' Defence Fund and the Cyclists' Charitable Trust are charities that the CTC works with. Local CTC branches organised mass meetings to reject the use of cycle tracks and any suggestion that cyclists should be forced to use them.
Cycling UK - A Voice for Cycling
By supporting Cycling UK you will be giving us a louder voice when campaigning locally and nationally on the issues that are important to you, as well as receiving valuable member benefits.
Jon Pett - Performance Director at PenTathlon
Jon Pett will leave his role as Head of Para-cycling for the Great Britain Cycling Team to take up the Performance Director role at Pentathlon GB.
The Use of Bicycles in Urban Recreation and Health
Riding efficiently and safely in traffic is a skill that is beyond simply riding. Cyclists occupying road space as car does is one approach to riding in traffic. In countries where cycling is popular, cyclists are often separated from the main highways and roads in the middle of the road.
Many primary schools participate in the national road test in which children are individually tested on a circuit on roads near the school. In areas where cycling is popular and encouraged, cycle-parking facilities using bicycle stands, mini-garages, and patrolled cycle parks are used to reduce theft. Local governments can promote cycling by permitting bicycles to be carried on public transport or by providing external attachment devices.
Cyclists from cities with low share of cycling complain about the lack of secure cycle-parking. Some cities have extensive cycling infrastructure. In some cities, dedicated paths have to be shared with in-line skaters, scooters, skateboarders, and pedestrians.
The question of liability of users in a collision is different in every jurisdiction. There is debate about the safety of separated facilities. The use of bicycles by police has increased since they are more accessible and can be used when roads are congested.
In some cases, bicycle officers have been used as a replacement for horseback officers. Critical Mass is an event that occurs on the last Friday of every month in cities around the world where bicyclists take to the streets en mass. The leaderless structure of Critical Mass makes it impossible to assign any one goal to the ride, which was founded to draw attention to how unfriendly the city was to bicyclists.
The use of the bicycle as a mode for sport, recreation or transportation
A bicycle is used for sport, recreation, or transportation. The sport of cycling is mostly held in Europe, the United States, and Asia. The bicycle is used for recreational purposes in Europe and the United States. In non-Western nations and in flatter countries, the use of the bicycle as a mode of transportation is important.
A tool kit for cycling
A tool kit is all the stuff that you carry on your rides to fix a problem or ensure safety, and it's a non-technical definition. A multi tool, puncture repair kit, hand-pump, and other items are included. It is possible to keep yourself safe and switched on through all of your bicycle adventures if you have the self-awareness to recognise your strengths and weaknesses. Anisa Aubin carries two pumps, one of which can be used as a mini-foot pump.
The British Cycling Federation
The British Cycling Federation was renamed British Cycling after it merged with other organizations. Each is a commission within the BCF. The team has high performance equipment.
They worked with outside firms to produce more aerodynamic bicycles and bicycle parts. Chris Boardman played a key role in redesigning equipment and clothing to maximize efficiency after they started using their own Sport Institute bicycles. British Cycling is working with many other groups to improve track speeds.
The team consisted of riders as Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Bradley Wiggins, and Rebecca Romero. There is no regional body in England. England is not recognised by the UCI as a region, and there is no English cycling team outside of the Commonwealth Games.
British Cycling supports the England team. The Isle of Man has a cycling association. The governing body of cycling in Ireland is called Cycling Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Cycling Federation was a rival body. The British body and the international federation, the UCI, had a dispute over it. Track bikes for the upcoming Olympic games are being developed by British Cycling.
The rise of the e-bike
The e-bike is a rising star. In the UK, over 50,000 e- bikes are sold each year and 5% of adults are interested in buying one of their own.
Dotwatcher: A website for dotting maps
dotwatching is an experience that is becoming more popular, but it is not the same as watching a dot on a map at the Tour de France. 'You can follow a rider on an epic race, wherever they are in the world, and all it takes is a bit of imagination,' says Beccy Waters who works for DotWatcher, a website dedicated to dotwatching. Data such as how long a person has stopped for and how much time they've spent on and off the bike are often included in dot maps.
dotwatching is great for those who are detail oriented as you can analyse all of a rider's decisions, route, and sleep time, and discuss with other dotwatchers whether you think they made the best choice' says Waters. Waters says there are different strategies for using the map. Some prefer to not look at it at all, others prefer to wait a few days into the race, and others look at it all the time.
Dotwatching is a great way to get a feel for the race and the scrutiny that will be on you when you are racing. If it goes wrong, you can feel helpless. People were talking to me about what happened when Mike's dot stopped.
Eco-friendly Transport: A New Form of Transportation
A study shows that cycling is an eco-friendly form of transport. A bike can be used for shorter journeys and it can also be used for emissions reduction. Children can go green with add-ons like trailers and seats.
People with disabilities are becoming more interested in cycling. Wheelchair users or those with severe weakness can use trikes that offer more stable support. Many organizations now provide companions for cyclists who are blind or visually impaired.
Terracycle: Recycling Plastic Pellets for Food Waste
If the box is greasy or stained with food, you can't recycle it and it should go in the general waste bin. If the lid is clean, you can take the rest of the box and recycle it. Terracycle recycles packets into plastic pellets to make new products. If you have crisp packets, you can take them to your nearest drop off point.
Derny bikes in France
Roger and Son made the first Derny bikes in France in the 1930s. The name stuck despite the company closing in 1957. The dynes have a 98cc engine with a fuel tank by the handlebars.
